Cria, Cria, Cria Continued...

In the early morning hours, while watching on the barn-cam, Robin noticed Firestar acting strangely. Just as daylight was peeking through, Robin headed for the barn to see. Corry's cell phone rang in the house. The caller ID said Robin was calling from the barn. An excited voice said, "There's a baby, it's already out, it's a boy and its multi-colored". Corry ran to the barn. There in the sand, soaking wet, trying to make it to his feet, was a multi-colored, teeny looking baby alpaca! It was only 6 a.m. The earliest in the morning we've had a baby born and the first time one was already on the ground when we arrived. We went into action and brought him into the barn with his Mom. Out came the warm, dry towels, the hair dryer, the thermometer…all the cria kit contents. But other than needing a little drying, he was doing fine without our help. He stood on his own quite quickly. His lips were going constantly looking for Mom's milk. He was up and going. But, what a surprise when we saw his coloring. All of our other babies have been solid. He is primarily white, with brown on the back of his neck and saddle. He has a brown and black mustache, a brown swipe over one eye; black on the tops of all 4 feet…he's amazing. He's been the most popular with our farm visitors. He has the "cute-factor" for sure!! Taking after his half siblings, his fiber is beautiful. We can't wait to enter him into the spring shows and see how he fares.
